Relatable People

After my stroke, I had to rebuild my life from the ground up. My employer was not supportive at all. They didn’t care. As a result, I lost my friends that were co-workers because they just couldn’t relate. They have no idea of what I’ve been through.

When you go through something traumatic, you have to find people that can relate. I found these people at a brain injury clubhouse. These people have been through similar situations: brain cancer, brain tumors, strokes, and traumatic brain injuries. They know how hard it is. They know about the financial instability. They know about the social isolation. Feeling appreciated and needed again makes me feel like I have purpose in my life.

A good stroke group is as essential to your recovery as is physical therapy.

I agree. I was isolated for 4 years until I got into BIND.
