Return to Normalcy

Just as a side note  – I FINALLY passed the VMR program required to drive again. It took me 4 months to pass it! I have been stuck on Level 3 for 2 months.  I took the Level 4 test for the first time today and passed it with flying colors.  What’s next, I’m not sure; however, I know they have a drive simulator at rehab. I will also be required to retake my driver’s license test again.

Everyday, I think about how far I’ve come. When I was in ICU, I didn’t realize what was wrong with me. Nobody told me I had a stroke.  In the beginning, I was honestly preparing for my death. Towards the end of my ICU stay, one of the nurses told me “Don’t worry. You are going to be okay.” It meant so much for me to hear that.

Of course, I want to be 100% healed. I’m praying that my speech/hearing problems will  fully resolve before I go back to work. I’m working hard to achieve this goal.

More than anything, I want my life to be normal again. About a month ago, some of my girl co-workers met for our “Bunco” outing. To be honest, I was a little freaked about what people would think about my disability. However, I relaxed and had a great time. I realized how important it so to try to be “normal” again. It was nice to have some”girl” time. 🙂

For the first time in 4 months, we went to a see movie. Ricky took me to see the Hunger Games movie. I got a device so that I could see the closed captions. It was awesome! I miss going to the movies!

I am so proud of you my sweet daughter. You have been a trooper through all of this.
It shows what kind of person you really are. I wished I could have took your place. I pray everyday for you and Ricky. You are the best daughter. I know you are giving 150% to getting well! I love you! Mom
